Coffin Busting out!!!
No honorable mentions for this one. We were discussing a new prop for the Haunted Plainfield haunt, decided the idea was a good one so I put one together for the Vancouver haunt.

So here we go, Coughin' Up a Coffin!!!

The idea is a a toe pincher coffin but breaking out of ground.  So actually only needed half of a coffin.  Not much to say .  Wasn't happy with any of the walk thru's for toe pinchers, googled some sites on folks who make coffins for a living.  Found rough dimensions of head, shoulder, and depth.  Went from there.  Making it on a slant for effect.

Clicking the image to the left will open the PDF drawing sheet with the dimensions used to make this prop.  This cut sheet is property of HauntBrothers.com so feel free to use it.

Pictures of the coffin almost completed.  I painted the inside black for the effect. Added a lid.

More work to come. I will be busting an opening out of the coffin and there will be a skeleton inside trying to get out.  Some type of lighting will be illuminating the skeleton.

Also, dirt will be put around the base to simulate the coffin coming out of the ground.

Needed to clarify the corner assemblies for my brother, so here we are, click the corner brace to the left to see a 3 Dimensional view of the part.  Be sure to accept the Active X if you want to see it.

I made for of these, as seen in the above left picture.  The angles for each are shown the PDF drawing, upper most left.  Basically cut a piece of 2x4 down and attached to vertical bracing boards to each "corner" block.  I then attached the vertical slats to these assemblies. In hindsight I could have done it different, but hey, I didn't!

Used several Fence Staple-Nails in along the 2x4 that makes up the bottom frame.  This will be used to stack the coffin into the ground to prevent tipping.
My end goal was to have a skeleton breaking out of the coffin and I figured I wasn't going to get to it until mid October, but I lucked out at Walmart and found this guy.  He is perfect for what I am trying to accomplish.

So I put him in the coffin and whacked out an opening with a hammer.  Left pieces of board hanging out and pulled his hands through as shown.

Added a green strobe light in the bottom pointing up.  Click the image on the left for the video.

Video image is squished, took it with my camera then had to rotate it after the fact.  Was going for the effect, so I don't care that it looks squished.

Dirt around the base will be added when the prop it placed outside for "permanent" Halloween display.
